chili con soy

bohnen

I love how beans look in their soaking water.

Yesterday I made "Chili con Soy" instead of "carne".

The recipe:

500 g dried Azuki beans
100 g dried Soy-meat (the kind that looks like minced meat, when cooked)
Soy sauce
1 can (400g) of peeled tomatoes
Olive oil
7 onions, cut into rings
8 cloves of garlic, cut into small pieces
3 green peppers
Chili powder
3 tsp. of cumin seeds
italian herbs

The beans are soaked for 12 hours and then cooked until done (without salt).
Drain the beans.
Fry the onions and garlic in olive oil with the whole cumin seeds. Then add the can of tomatoes, refill the can twice with water and add that as well.
The dry soy meat should be prepared like indicated on the package. I mixed mine with soy sauce and let it stand for a while and then just added it to the pot.
Then add spices, salt, sugar, the green peppers, and the drained beans and let that cook for a while until you think it's good.
Serve with rice and enjoy your meal!

Oh, maybe I should add that this is going to be a LOT of food, in any case it's too much for just two people... I don't know why I sometimes cook to much stuff. I put something away and froze it ;-)
Maybe you should divide everything by three, if you don't have to feed a big family or many friends.
